Landscaping SEO is a great method that you need to be taking advantage of as a landscaper in 2017.
Optimizing your website properly can help you gain more leads and dominate your local competition while increasing your revenue and allowing you to work with a wider range of clients.
As a landscaper or lawn care professional you need to be aware of the fact that a simple website with just a few pages isn’t enough to get your more business from people search for more information online.
Investing in SEO is one of the best ways to get more local leads and grow your business without having to spend thousands of dollars on traditional types of advertising.
These days, just about everyone is heading to Google or other online search engines to look for local products and services, and this includes things like landscaping and lawn care services in their local area.
SEO for landscaping websites isn’t actually all that difficult to get started with.
Sure, there is a little bit of a learning curve while you get everything set-up properly, but once you implement SEO you’ll be able to prove to the search engines that you’re legitimate and you can start to get your business in front of a lot more people.
In this post I want to share with you some introductory SEO steps you can start applying to your own website right away so you can begin to enjoy the benefits that optimizing will bring over the following few months.
Let’s get started!
Landscaping SEO Tips
If you don’t feel like doing this on your own or you’d rather have a professional work on your site for you, please don’t hesitate to contact me – I’d love to speak with you about your lawn care marketing needs!
Take Advantage of Local Keywords
When people head online and are looking for a local service they are typically searching for specific keywords, rather than something general.
For example, say you live in San Diego and you’re looking for a landscaper, you wouldn’t search “landscaper”, rather you would probably search for “landscaper San Diego” or “lawn care services in San Diego”.
For bigger cities the searches would be even more specific.
So someone living in Brooklyn wouldn’t search for “Dentist New York” and instead they would probably be searching for something like “Dentist in Brooklyn or “Best Dentists in Brooklyn”.
See what I mean?
Finding the keywords is really easy and although there are some more advanced steps to finding the best ones you can simply start with some search terms like:
- Landscaping + city
- Lawn care + city
- Lawn care services in + city
- Landscaping in + neighborhood
- Landscaping in + state
You can also target even more specific keywords for a certain service that you offer.
For example, some more specifics search terms you can target include:
- Grass cutting in + city
- Lawn sprinkler installation in + state
There are a few different SEO tools that you can use to find keywords but when you’re just getting started you can try to think of them on your own to see what you can come up with.
Google Keyword Planner is a great tool you can use to get started and you can even use the basic Google Search bar suggestions to see what you can find.
Create and Use Your Google My Business Account
Google My Business is a free business listing that you can create and start using for your landscaping or lawn care company.
You can use it to create a local listing so that potential customers in your community will be more easily able to find your business and contact you for more information.
Setting it up is very easy and there is a guided tour that you can go through on how to set your business up properly on the platform.
Some basic optimization that you’ll need include general information about your company, the phone number, location address, website URL, and the categories that you want your business to be displayed in.
After setting everything up there are a bunch of different tools that you can access such as the Analytics as well as the Reviews section of the listing.
If it’s optimized properly, your Google My Business listing will show up in the pack of results at the top of the search results page and you can also use it to garner reviews that will help your business in the long run.
Setting it up is pretty easy but it’s a good idea to let someone with experience optimize it properly for you and for that I recommend contacting me so that I can help you out.
Ensure All Citations are Consistent
When it comes to local search results, citations definitely have an impact on your search rankings.
In this case you want to make sure that all the information you add to each citation is consistent across all of the citations.
The information you add is known as the NAP, or Name, Address, and Phone Number.
It’s important to make sure that when you’re building citations that the NAP is the same for each one.
The reason for this is because Google is going to check out all of the different citation sites and they will compare the NAP information that you’ve used to make sure it’s consistent.
Any inconsistencies can definitely have a detrimental impact on your local search rankings so it’s very important that you make sure that all of the citations match the NAP of your actual business.
Building and adding different citations can take a lot of time, especially if you don’t have the experience doing so, and if this is something you would like some help with I recommend contacting me so that I can give you a hand.
Use Images (And Optimize Them)
A lot of local sites that I come across don’t take advantage of using images.
Having images on your website is important, especially for a service based business such as landscaping or lawn care, and along with choosing relevant images you also want to make sure that they are optimized to help get you more web traffic and bring you more leads.
Once you have chosen some images to upload to your site there are a few different ways that you can optimize them for image SEO.
To start, make sure that you use a specific filename rather than something generic that doesn’t really add any value.
For example, rather than naming the image something like “grass1343 .jpg” you should instead go with something such as “Atlanta-lawn-services.jpg”.
This is going to have a tiny impact on your SEO and it can also help to bring you some web traffic from people searching images as well.
Another thing you want to do is use the image alt text, which you can easily find if you’re using WordPress, and you should make sure that you choose a similar alt text that’s relevant to the service you’re providing as well as the location.
Formatting your images in a way that helps with SEO can definitely help you get more leads as well as give a better idea of the quality of service that your business is able to provide.
Take Advantage of Meta Descriptions
Whenever somebody searches for something in Google it’s usually the meta descriptions that they read first before clicking on a link.
The meta description is the text that you see right underneath the title of your page whenever you do a Google search and it’s basically a description that describes what the page is about.
It’s a good idea to create unique content for this description and to make sure that you provide some specific details about the services you provide as well as any local areas that you offer services for.
Not optimizing your meta description can actually lead to people skipping over your website in favor of something that better matches their search requirements or preferences.
Get Started Today
Depending on the size of your site and how much experience you have with working on the backend of WordPress, or whatever platform you’re using, you can either implement all of these changes right away or spread them out over the next few weeks or months.
A lot of these changes you’ll only have to apply once and again whenever you’re adding new content to your website so it’s not something you have to worry about on a daily basis once the changes have been made.
Don’t expect anything to happen right away, as SEO takes quite a while to start showing its results, but after a few weeks you should start seeing some changes as long as you have implemented everything properly.
Keep in mind that these are just some basic landscaping SEO tips and there is a lot more involved when it comes to SEO for landscapers and lawn service providers that you’ll be able to take advantage of when you’re working with the right individual.
