Is WordPress Hard to Learn

A common question I get a lot of beginner bloggers asking me is:

Is WordPress hard to learn?

To be upfront, the answer is a big NO!

WordPress is really easy to learn and get started with, and when it comes to the best blogging platform for beginners it’s definitely what I would recommend.

It was actually designed to be easy and it was made so that bloggers and website owners didn’t need to know anything about coding or any of the other technical stuff involved in actually designing a website.

It’s a great out of the box platform for beginners and, while it might seem daunting at first, after spending just 30 minutes using WordPress I’m convinced that you’ll quickly become comfortable with it.

Not only is it easy to use but there are plenty of YouTube videos, tutorials, and in depth guides that show you how to do anything you want.

There’s no need to spend money on any special courses or pay anybody to do something, unless you want something completely specific or unique that isn’t available yet.

If there’s anything that you have trouble with you just need to quickly Google it and it’s very likely that you’ll find a variety of different solutions to choose from that will help you with any of your problems.

In this post I just want to go over why I don’t think WordPress is hard to use and just help you out with some beginner tips if you’re just getting started on the platform.

Is WordPress Hard To Use: NO! A Helpful Guide on Getting Started

Great for Beginners

Not only is WordPress not hard to use, but it’s actually a great platform for beginner bloggers and anyone looking to start up their own website.

Getting started is really easy, the first thing you need to do is just pick up a domain name and follow up with getting some hosting to get your website live and online.

This is made even easier with a hosting company like SiteGround, because they actually include a free domain when you sign up and they have a easy install process for WordPress.

After signing up, you just need to follow the installation prompts and shortly after you’ll be able to sign into your WordPress dashboard.

This is a process that shouldn’t take more than 10 to 15 minutes, even for complete beginners, and after signing in you can start to easily customize the appearance of your site without any coding or technical knowledge.

With WordPress, there are thousands of different free themes to choose from and premium themes aren’t that expensive either if you want something nicer looking.

There are also a thousands of different free plugins that you can use to customize your blog or website depending on what your purposes are for creating it.

What I’m trying to say is, you don’t need any technical knowledge at all and you definitely don’t need to be a programmer to get a nice-looking WordPress website online.

How to Choose and Install a Theme

different wordpress themes

Once you have set up your hosting and installed WordPress, which is really easy to do if you’re using SiteGround by the way, you can choose from a wide range of different website themes.

The theme is what dictates what your blog or website looks like and it’s the code that changes the appearance of your site to the people that visit it.

For example, the different orange and black colors that you see here on BobbyStefanovic, as well as the layout of the menu and the location of the sidebar, that’s all related to the theme.

From the WordPress dashboard (homepage) you can easily change the theme by simply clicking on “Appearance” and then “Themes”.

Then, to choose a new theme, you just need to click on “Add new” and you’ll be able to see all of the different themes available.

After picking one, you can quickly install and activate it so that it’s live on your site, and there isn’t any coding or programming needed at any point.

Although there are some nice looking free themes, the customization options that you have with them are quite limited, so I recommend picking up a premium theme so that your side looks better and is more professional looking.

For themes, I’m a huge fan of Elegant Themes as well as Theme Forest, both of which have a great selection of beautiful looking themes to choose from.

Managing Plugins

wordpress plugins

Plug-ins are basically like these tools that you can install on to your WordPress site to make specific changes or to provide different options to your visitors.

For example, one of the most popular WordPress plugins is called Yoast, and this plugin allows you to change different settings about your blog posts as well as get a better look at how well optimized your website is for search results.

One of the main reasons why so many people love using WordPress is because of all the different plugins that it comes with and they really help to add another level of customization to your site that you otherwise wouldn’t be able to take advantage of.

There is basically a plug-in available for anything you may need and with so many different options to choose from there is still no need to hire a programmer or need to know any specific coding knowledge to configure your site how you want.

To get a better idea of your options, I recommend taking a look at this post on the best WordPress plugins, and you should check out this post on how to install a WordPress plug-in if you’re not sure how to do that.

WordPress is Super Popular

Another one of the main reasons why WordPress is so easy to learn and why there is so much information about it online is because it’s the most popular blogging platform and content management system for websites and bloggers around the world.

I think that by now nearly 30% of websites are using WordPress and all of the top bloggers are also using it.

Thanks to its popularity, there is so much helpful information about how to use WordPress and learning all about it online so even for complete beginners there is a huge network of support.

Between all of the different tutorials, how to guides, and YouTube videos it’s really easy to get started using WordPress and there’s plenty of information that will help you out if you ever run into any problems.

Thinking about you might not be able to use it, or that you might run into problems, isn’t the right way to go about thinking because it’s such a beginner platform that even people without any blogging experience at all should be able to pick it up rather quickly.

It’s Better Than Using a Free Site

I recently wrote about going with the self-hosted version of WordPress when you’re starting a blog or website, and it’s very important that you do that and avoid using any free websites or free hosting platforms for your online content.

WordPress has so many different great features, it’s really easy to use, and hosting is reasonably affordable, which means there isn’t really any reason why you would want to go with something free.

The free platforms, including WordPress.com, come with a lot of limitations and they aren’t as practical if you’re hoping to get to started with blogging or grow your own website.

Even for e-commerce, like if you’re hoping to start a Shopify store, it’s still better to use WordPress because you just have so much more control over what everything looks like and you completely own all of your content.

You can never predict what’s going to happen if you’re using a free blogging platform so you’re much better off going with WP right from the start.

Final Thoughts

To finish up, WordPress is really straightforward and easy to use, even if you’re a complete beginner.

It’s very intuitive and there is so much information about it online that there are few reasons why you would want to avoid using it.

Setting everything up takes no time at all, there are quite a few options for affordable web hosting, and there are so many different themes and plugins to choose from that you can quickly customize the look and appearance of your site without having to do any coding or hiring a programmer.

After just a few days of using WordPress I’m positive that you will already be comfortable with a platform and if you’re just starting out I definitely recommend using it from the beginning.
