Knowing how to remove followers on Instagram can actually be pretty helpful.
Most of the time this isn’t something you have to worry about but what happens if someone follows you that you really don’t like or there’s someone annoying that might be stalking you and just leaving inappropriate comments.
There could be any number of reasons why you don’t want a certain individual following you on Instagram or if you just want to clean up your account and get rid of a bunch of people that you don’t even know.
Thankfully, removing followers is a very straightforward process and really only takes a few moments of your time.
As of writing, in March 2017, it’s still possible to remove somebody without blocking them although you can also block them as well if you don’t want them seeing any of your content or being able to contact you.
How You Can Remove Instagram Followers
Head to Your Followers List
The first thing you’re going to want to do is head to your followers list for an overview of everybody that’s currently following you.
From the Instagram homepage tap on the small icon of your profile photo on the bottom right.
From here just to simply click on the followers amount and your list of followers will show up.
Select the Account You Want Unfollowed
Scroll down through the list until you find the account of the person that you don’t want following you.
Alternatively, you can visit their profile directly if they’ve left the comment or have recently liked your page and you can quickly navigate to it.
Once you’ve found the account, tap-on through to their profile.
Block the Offending User
After you’ve landed on the profile of the person that you don’t want following you you’re going to want to click on the three small dots on the top right of their home page.
From the menu options you want to select “Block”.
After selecting block you’ll be prompted with a pop-up that tells you that this person won’t be able to find your profile, Instagram posts or see any of these Story videos or photos that you posted.
You can choose to select “Cancel” if you don’t want that to happen or just follow through with “Block” to get rid of them.
Unblock or Leave As Is
Once you’ve done this the person is going to be blocked and they won’t be able to contact you or see any of the photos that you posted.
Maybe this isn’t something you want and if you just want a simple unfollow you can immediately click on “Unblock”.
When you unblock them they still won’t be following you but they’ll be allowed to contact you and can still see the photos and other content you post as long as you have a public account.
Using a Private Instagram Account
The process is a little bit different if you’re using a private Instagram account.
It works the same way and you just need to head to the list of the people that you have following your account and find the person that you don’t want following you anymore.
Then all you need to do is tap on the 3 small dots that you see at the far right of their account display and simply choose the “Remove” menu option.
That’s really all there is to it when it comes to removing Instagram followers.
It’s a very straightforward process and it’s really easy to remove people that you don’t want following you anymore or even just block them all together so that they can’t see your photos or contact you.
For smaller accounts this is quite easy but if you have an account number in the tens of thousands or higher than it might be a little more tricky finding the people that you don’t want following you.
Alternatively, you can just search for individuals directly and block them so they’re not able to keep up with you on Instagram.
As always, make sure that the app is completely up to date so that you’re able to take advantage of the most recent features and enjoy optimal usability.
