If you’re planning on making a video where you’re talking to the camera for the most part, like a vlog, then it’s important that you’re taking advantage of good lighting in that the audio is good.
For screen capture videos, like tutorials or slideshows, you want to make sure that the resolution is good quality and that any idea that you’re using is easy to understand.
Above all, you want to focus on providing as much value as you can to the people watching your content.
To get a better idea of how to provide value, it’s important to take an in-depth look at your audience to determine what they like and what type of content they would prefer watching.
This is very dependent on the actual niche that you’re in but the basic principles apply across all different topics of content.

You can take some of these search terms and make a video for each of them while at the same time trying to make sure that the videos you create are better than the current top results.
Seeing these search terms showing up also validates the idea for you so that you know that people are actually going to be watching your videos if you provide great content and that you’re not just taking a stab in the dark and hoping for the best.
Along with creating great videos, you are someone to focus on optimizing the videos that you upload so that they show up in relevant search results.
Properly utilizing YouTube SEO will not only help to get your videos showing up in a wide range of search results but can also get them featured in the related videos bar that every user sees at the side of their screen when they’re watching videos.
There are four main areas that you need to focus on when it comes to properly optimizing your videos on YouTube.
These areas include:
- Video title
- Video description
There is no need to spend hours agonizing over each of these areas, and just spending a few minutes on each will already put you ahead of most of the competition.
Creating the title is really easy and it’s important that you use a specific keyword that you want to target in the title.
For example, if you made a video about how to start a small business, then you want to use a title like:
- How to start a small business in one hour or less
- How to start a small business on a tight budget
Of course, it’s still a good idea to see the different titles that your competitors are using and what some of the titles on the first page of results look like to get some inspiration on how to come up with yours.

Personally, for my videos I use the RapidTags website to find relevant tags and I include as many as I feel are necessary for the tags.
You don’t want to go too overboard here but make sure to use as many relevant tags that you can come up with in order to reach the most amount of people.
Using the proper tags is also going to help your video show up with other suggested videos and making the video easier to find is definitely going to help you get more YouTube video views.
One thing I notice on a lot of different YouTube videos is that very few people take full advantage of having a detailed and well written description.
This is one area where you can really take advantage of to come ahead of your competitors as well as to target a much wider range of relevant search terms for more views in the long run.
Make sure to avoid keyword stuffing or not writing any helpful content.
In the description, start out by describing what your video is about and providing a summary of the video so that people know what they’re getting and what they can expect.
It’s basically like writing a small blog post and I recommend going with at least 300 to 500 words in the description so that you can make it is relevant and as helpful as possible.
The YouTube algorithm also looks for keywords and search phrases in the description and writing a helpful description is going to help you rank higher and ensure that your video gets found by more people.
As for some helpful advice, you should start out by putting a link in the top of the description to your website or wherever else that you want to drive traffic to.

If you’re using a specific keyword, which you should be, make sure that you include it in the first 25 words or so and that you use it at least 3 or 4 times throughout the description.

Having a high quality and custom thumbnail also helps to improve CTR through from the different search engine results and even if you’re not ranked in the number one spot, you can still get more views as long as you have a great thumbnail.
Make sure to use custom images and always overlay some text on the image using either a keyword or a phrase that will give people the better idea of what your video is about.
Avoid using any clickbait images, because this can be deceiving to your viewers and you could lose subscribers and get some thumbs down clicks.

Given the cost, it’s only a good idea to use ads if you’re promoting a product or service in your videos where you could possibly convert the viewer into a client or buyer.
With the ad system that YouTube offers you can focus on targeting a specific audience, and this will get your video in front of people that are actually interested in what your content is about.
This way you don’t have to worry so much about SEO, or waiting for the views to start rolling in, you can just start running ads from the beginning.
Looking at the analytics after running ads to your videos is also going to give you a better idea of whether or not your video is being well-received and provide you with a more in-depth look at engagement and other important metrics.
You’ll be able to determine if people are actually watching your videos all the way through or if they’re just watching for a short while and then exiting out to watch something else.

You can also share it with your email subscribers or post it on relevant blog posts that you have

For example, don’t hesitate to share it on your Twitter, post it onto your Facebook page, and even upload a relevant photo on Instagram with a call to action to your video in your bio.
